What is OKAPI GasterCare forte?

GasterCare forte now contains Maytenus ilicifolia – a medicinal plant from South America traditionally used to support gastric function.
For horses with sensitive digestion – especially during periods of stress or changes in diet.
The saying "having a stomach of iron", often attributed to people with strong stomachs, has long been disproved. We now know that horses cannot vomit for anatomical reasons, but that they nevertheless have an extremely sensitive stomach. As a result, they often react to a hay-based diet with prolonged (forced) breaks between hay portions by developing inflammation in the front part of the stomach. Stress also "affects" the stomach of horses and can lead to inflammation or even – in the long term – gastric ulcers, which are often located in the area of the stomach outlet.
Of course, not all horses are the same: some have a stomach that is much more sensitive to disturbances than others. However, there are some behavioural signs that suggest that the stomach is not entirely balanced. GasterCare forte can be given to these horses, as it supports the physiological barrier function of the gastric mucosa and can help sensitive horses to better compensate for periods of stress, such as stressful phases or suboptimal feed management.

Can I combine GasterCare forte with other products?
OKAPI GasterCare forte can be combined with OKAPI liquorice extract to further support metabolism (please note current doping regulations). For OKAPI GasterCare forte to be effective, sufficient roughage must be provided. GasterCare forte can generally be combined with other products.
How long should I give OKAPI GasterCare forte?
GasterCare forte can be given for shorter or longer periods, depending on the horse's individual needs and circumstances. If no visible improvement is seen after a few weeks, this may be due to the fact that the stomach is not the main cause of the existing problems or that major stress factors or feeding have not yet been optimally adapted.
For example, if hay continues to be fed only in meals, or if the horse is stressed - for example by group stress, chronic pain or other stressful factors - the gastric mucosa may not be able to settle. In such cases, it can be useful to consult a qualified therapist to analyse the situation and make targeted adjustments.
As soon as signs of improvement are visible, the quantity can be gradually reduced. However, if the horse again shows signs of discomfort, for example following a change of stable or the integration of new group members, the quantity can be increased at any time. In principle, GasterCare forte is suitable for long-term administration, but it is always advisable to limit the quantity to the minimum necessary and to work towards the point where permanent support is no longer required.
How should OKAPI GasterCare forte be fed?
It is best to administer GasterCare forte daily as a complementary feed to the horse's usual diet. It is important to divide the administration into 3 meals.
How do I calculate the right dosage for my horse?
To calculate the appropriate dose of OKAPI GasterCare forte, follow these steps:
Determine the horse's weight:

Comply with feed recommendations:
The general recommendations for OKAPI products refer to a 600 kg horse. The recommended daily amount is 2 ML (1 scoop = 10 g) three times a day.
Adjusting the dose: If the horse weighs 300 kg, for example, the dose should be adjusted accordingly. The calculation is as follows: daily dose (60 g) / 600 kg × weight of horse (300 kg) = daily ration (30 g spread over 3 meals). This calculation method is used to determine the appropriate quantity.
It is important to spread the daily amount over three meals if possible, or to administer it at least in the morning and evening.
OKAPI GasterCare forte contains:
