The activator is used to produce EM-A (EM Activated) using EM-1 (stock solution) and molasses. The thermo-regulated activator ensures an optimum fermentation process. The micro-organisms present in EM mother solution are in a latent state and must be activated before use.
The water bath drain at the top of the activator evacuates the gas produced by fermentation and prevents air from entering. The immersion heater (electric resistance) maintains a constant temperature of 30°C for optimal fermentation. In summer, the ambient temperature can exceed 30°C, so the activator should be installed in a cool but not too cool room (20 to 25°C) to avoid overheating (above 40°C, fermentation can be incomplete and of poor quality). In winter, if the ambient temperature is too low (below 15°C), the heating element may not be sufficient to maintain the temperature; fermentation will simply take longer. The most important thing is that the fermentation temperature remains constant. The tap allows you to draw off the EM-A you need.

Instructions for use: To obtain a good mixture, you need to :
Dilute the molasses with hot water.
Make up with cold water.
Pour in the mother solution.
Set the temperature to around 30 degrees, with the immersion heater at the bottom of the tank.
Close the activator.
Half-fill the trap with water.
After 7 days, your EM-Activé is ready to use.
Shelf life: approx. 2 weeks.
* To treat chlorinated water, it is necessary to leave the water in an open container for 48 hours, or for a minimum of 24 hours in direct sunlight, or to use water from a filter or osmosis unit.
EM probiotics must be used quickly, otherwise they begin to lose their effectiveness.
EM probiotics should always be stored in a cool, well-ventilated place, out of the reach of children and pets.
CAUTION: For the storage of EM-Activated: do not use containers where the product could be confused with liquids used for human consumption (drinkable).
NOTE:
When starting an activation there is always foam. If it is white, this means that yeast and mould are forming, which is good. If the foam turns green or orange it is not good.
EM-A normally has a sweet-sour odour and a pH of approximately 3.3 to 3.8; if it smells rotten (nauseating) or if the pH is above 4, there has been contamination and the solution should be discarded.
Use of EM-Activated
The organic compounds in manure, litter and green waste are transformed by a maturation process into nutrients that are easily assimilated by plants. During this transformation, effective micro-organisms compete with putrefactive bacteria and pathogenic germs. In this way, phenomena such as putrefaction and ammonia emissions are avoided. In addition, infectious pressure in the stable is reduced and the treated manure is a better quality product for the soil, producing good quality grass for the animals. Respiratory problems are reduced and there are fewer flies in the stable.
EM-activated is an ultra-fast deodoriser for livestock farms. Noxious odours from livestock farms are caused by a mixture of several gases: ammonia (pungent odour in small doses), hydrogen sulphide (nauseating rotten egg odour), trimethylamine (strong rotten fish odour) and methyl mercaptan (rotten cabbage odour). As it happens, these very substances are food for EM micro-organisms, which find their way to them and ingest them, thereby eliminating them by transforming them. There is no risk to human or animal health.
For the soil, EM-activated composting leads to fermentation rather than putrefaction. The more good EM micro-organisms are added, the less pathogens develop in the soil and plants. It also provides trace elements, antioxidants, minerals and vitamins for crops.
TO MAKE BOKASHI in the garden, 2L of EM-activated in approximately 10L of non-chlorinated water (the pile of your total organic matter should contain 50 to 70% dry matter); pack well, close tightly and leave to ferment for 8 to 10 weeks before using in the soil.
FOR SPRAYING in combination with Vulkamin powder (treatment for cowsheds and manure)
DOSAGE 1 l undiluted EM-activated per m² of bedding per year.
Practical: Lay down a layer of litter (straw or flax, avoid woody products which are difficult to ferment) and add a little litter to the soiled areas.
Sprinkle 750gr of Vulkamin where it is wet 2 times a week.
3 times a week: 1.5 litres of solution (65ml of EM-activated in 1.5 litres of water) to be sprayed in the stable (9 to 12 m²).
Solution: 5% EM-activated (5 litres EM-activated / 100 litres of water)
Advantages
- Efficient transformation of organic matter
- Better quality pastures and crops
- Better stable climate with fewer flies
- Prevents rotting and ammonia emissions
- For a high-quality, bacteriologically healthy environment
- Allows you to make the most of manure
• Reduced volume of faecal matter and urine in the litter, resulting in less frequent maintenance and cleaning.
IDEAL STORAGE OF MANURE
Manure can be fermented in two ways:
- In a "mattress" stall (see "Organic stables")
- On the manure heap (see "making bokashi")
Dosage up to 34 t / ha / year
In practice: apply in spring and autumn. Bokashi is not harmful to horses. However, to give the grass and plant cover time to regenerate, it is advisable to remove the animals from the pasture.
Advantages
- Optimum nourishment for soil life
- Increases the organic matter balance
- Saves on the cost of disposing of organic matter
- Reuse of your own nutrients
ON THE MEADOW: BETTER MANURE DECOMPOSITION, FEWER PATHOGENS AND MANY GOOD INPUTS FOR THE SOIL
Dosage 20 l of EM-activated / ha / grazing treatment diluted in 500 to 1000 l of water, to be repeated 2 to 3 times a year from the end of winter until October.
Advantages
- Decomposition of organic matter into sustainable humus
- Stimulation of the soil's microbial balance
- Improves the chemical, physical and biological characteristics of the soil
FOR THE GARDEN :
Dosage 1 to 2 l of EM-activated / 100 m2 / diluted in 100 l of chlorine-free water
or for 10m2: 100ml (half a cup of tea) in 10L of chlorine-free water every week or every 15 days (Measurements taken in 2019)
1 to 2L/m3 for large volumes
Creates a balance of life in the soil
Fermentation of plant and animal waste.
Compost accelerator (better transformation and less odour nuisance)
Creates a natural balance in the pond
Sprayed on plants: disease control
EFFECTIVE MICRO-ORGANISMS INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE IN SWIMMING POOLS AND/OR SPAS
EM + EM-A CERAMICS
The softening and vitalising effect is a natural alternative to chlorine for fresh, soft, healthy water.
DOSAGE OF EM CERAMIC
For small pools or jacuzzis, we recommend 1 kg of EM ceramic per 1000 litres of water. Place the EM ceramic in the filter system. For larger volumes of water, use 10 to 20% of the water volume in m3. For example, for a 10 m3 pool, you will need 1 to 2 kg of EM ceramic.
DOSAGE OF EM-A
Supports microbial balance and hygiene.
The initial dosage is 1 litre of EM-A per 1000 litres of water. The subsequent maintenance dosage depends on the ambient temperature, the frequency of use of the pool, whether or not the pool is covered against the effects of the weather, etc.
DOSAGE AS A GUIDE
Below 10°C = 1 litre of EM-A per 10 m3 every 2 months
Between 10°C and 15°C = 1 litre of EM-A per 10 m3 per month
Between 15°C and 25°C = 1 litre of EM-A for 10 m3 every 2 weeks
For higher temperatures, we recommend applying 1 litre of EM-A per 10 m3 per week.
CAUTION When using effective micro-organisms in a swimming pool or jacuzzi, you cannot expect to obtain water as clear as when using chlorine. However, the water remains fresh and in a microbial balance (more or less self-cleaning) without the disadvantages of chlorine for the skin, health and the environment..
