About the event
The miracle of nature
You've probably seen them before: bees and bumblebees buzzing around, busy flying from flower to flower.
I remember the first time I looked at a bumblebee and wondered how this little teddy bear could fly with its tiny wings. What a miracle, what energy!
The best known is the honeybee, which is capable of travelling great distances, some 40,000 km for 1 kg of honey, or a trip around the earth.
Less well known, wild solitary bees have a much smaller range in terms of flight distance and often only need nectar from a single species and colour of flower.
It is mainly solitary bees, but also bumblebees, that are struggling to survive due to the lack of nectar-producing plants, so sow as much diversity as possible!
Bees are indispensable
Bees have existed for over 100 million years and are essential to our planet. Long before humans appeared, bees (and other insects) already existed.
Bees are responsible for 80% of pollination worldwide, with the remaining 20% carried out by the wind and other animals.
Bees collaborate with plants to provide food for humans and animals.
If you stop to think about everything bees do to fill the plate in front of us every day, you will certainly start to see them in a different light.
Without bees, our plates would be rather empty and one-sided.
In fact, one third of our food comes from bee pollination.
Many fruits, vegetables and cereals will disappear if bees disappear.
Without sufficient nectar, wild bees in particular will struggle, as will bumblebees, butterflies and other beneficial insects.
Albert Einstein once said, "If the bees disappear, man will only have four years left to live."
Not a very encouraging prospect!
It is therefore high time to take action to reverse the trend by sowing as many nectar plant seeds as possible.
Sign up for a fun afternoon making seed bombs for bees. You can then take them home and plant them in your garden. This activity is also fun and educational for your children.
For example, in addition to planting seeds in your small garden, or if you don't have a garden, you can also get involved as a Guerrilla Gardener.
You can then scatter seed bombs wherever you encounter bare, dull patches of ground to make them much more cheerful and, of course, help the bees.
We only use organic seeds, which are healthier for bees in terms of nectar quality, have been grown cleanly and fairly, and do not contain toxic coatings to prevent bird droppings.
Furthermore, as the seeds are well packaged in the seed bomb, there is virtually no predation by birds.
Choose random sunny spots where there is no mowing or hoeing, otherwise the bees will still not be able to benefit from them.
Nectar plants love sunny spots, and bees love them too 😉 .
The more people who make balls, the better!
