The smell of hay awakens pleasant thoughts in many people. The scent of freshly mown grass, meadow flowers and herbs reminds us of warm summer days. Just sitting with the horses as they nibble their hay brings us peace and serenity. For our horses, however, hay means so much more.
Hay is a nutritionally important fibre and should form the basis of any ration suitable for the horse species. Horses consume a large quantity of hay every day as the basis of their diet, because the horse's digestive system is geared towards obtaining energy from grasses and plants. Hay is essential for a horse's intestinal health, increasing chewing activity and promoting tooth wear in conjunction with a slow feed intake. This just goes to show how important hay is in a horse's diet.
AGROBS® AlpenHeu ("Alpine Hay") is harvested at the right time and at the right cutting height. The time of cutting is determined by the vegetation and falls between the end of grass flowering and the start of seed formation. This ensures that the high crude fibre content required by horses is achieved, while at the same time keeping the protein and fructan content low.
After harvesting, the grasses and plants are gently dried in warm air, mixed with sun-dried hay and dusted. The result is a high-quality, dust-free AGROBS® AlpenHeu. Its unique composition provides a variety of minerals, trace elements and native vitamins, making AGROBS® AlpenHeu particularly tasty.
Regular checks on the harvesting areas are essential to guarantee the high quality of AGROBS® AlpenHeu. At least once a year, we check the plant population, the condition of the soil and also the upkeep of the area. One of the greatest treasures of the Bavarian Alpine foothills are the meadows from which Agrobs AlpenHeu comes. The altitude and limestone soils encourage the growth of meadows rich in species and grasses.
