Organic sandy oats/Japanese oats
Other names used for this beautiful species are Avena Strigosa, Evena, Evie or Japanese oat.
Sowing advice
* green manure crop - 30 kg per hectare
* weed control in combination with grasses - max. 20 kg per hectare
* nematode control - 100 kg per hectare
* coarse fodder / biological mass - 60-80 kg per hectare
These seeds can be easily mixed with our other grass seeds and sown by machine or by hand.
This species has been grown in the Netherlands since the 14th century as roughage, straw substitute, green manure, soil structure improver and effective against various root nematodes.
In addition, its rapid germination/development makes it highly suitable for use as a weed under pressure during new grass sowing. Sand oats are particularly recommended for drier (sandy) soils, where weed pressure (due to slow grass development and drought) can be very high.
As these oats are sensitive to frost, they will eventually die out and the grasses will take over.
