Regulation of weight and blood sugar levels
Metabo'Light is a 100% natural feed supplement for overweight horses or ponies unable to lose weight despite a strict diet. It is also recommended to support equines and donkeys that are insulin-resistant, chronically stunted and/or suffering from equine metabolic syndrome.
Metabo'Light supports horses at risk:
- Overweight and/or obese horses
- Horses going out to grass in the spring
- Horses with a history of laminitis
- Affected horses with a disturbed endocrine system (Cushing/PSSM/SME)
- In association with a strict cereal-free diet, a supplement of CMV is desirable.
- The berberine contained in metabo'Light has a hypoglycaemic effect that improves insulin sensitivity, regulates blood sugar levels in the horse's body and improves the use of glucose by the liver.
It is important to carry out a herbal drainage treatment for 15 days just before giving Metabo'Light. Hepa clean 10 days or the Drénalis herbal blend for 15 days.
The liver is responsible for storing SUGAR: when there is excess glucose in the blood (hyperglycaemia) following a meal of grain, for example, the pancreas secretes insulin which instructs the liver to capture and store this glucose in the form of glycogen. This brings blood sugar levels back to normal (laminitis/cushing/SME).
Conversely, when blood glucose levels are too low (hypoglycaemia), the pancreas secretes glucagon, which instructs the liver to release stored glucose to bring blood glucose levels back to normal.

How does Berberine work?
- Improved insulin sensitivity: Berberine can increase the sensitivity of cells to insulin, which means they are more responsive to this hormone. This allows the cells to better absorb blood glucose, thereby reducing blood sugar levels.
 - Reduced glucose production: Berberine can inhibit glucose production in the liver, helping to maintain more stable blood sugar levels.
 - Increased glycogen production: Berberine also promotes the conversion of glucose into glycogen, a form of glucose storage in the liver and muscles. This helps regulate blood sugar levels by storing excess glucose for later use.
 - Reduced carbohydrate absorption: Berberine may also reduce the absorption of carbohydrates in the intestine, which may help to maintain more stable blood sugar levels after meals.
