What are Sugar Light OKAPI hay pellets?
Sugar Light hay pellets are special pellets made from dried and pressed hay with a particularly low sugar content. They are particularly suitable for horses that, due to health problems, require a low-sugar diet, such as older horses or those suffering from metabolic disorders.
These hay pellets are free from molasses and other binders and are produced without added sugars in order to preserve the horse's health. Thanks to their low sugar content, they can also be used as a base for mixing with other foods. However, horses that are used to a diet higher in sugar may not immediately accept the hay pellets at first. In this case, it is recommended to gradually introduce the hay pellets into the diet.
Sugar Light hay pellets should always be soaked before feeding to minimise the risk of digestive problems and facilitate absorption.
Are Sugar Light hay pellets suitable for my horse?
Sugar Light hay pellets are generally suitable for all horses, especially those with specific nutritional requirements. Thanks to their very low sugar content (only 4%) and the fact that they are made from a late first cut of lean grass suitable for horses, they are particularly suitable for horses with metabolic problems, such as insulin resistance or equine metabolic syndrome (EMS). They are also suitable for horses that are very easy to feed and tend to gain weight, as they contain virtually no sugar.
These hay pellets are also a useful simple feed for older horses or those with dental problems that prevent them from chewing normal hay sufficiently. They provide the fibre necessary for healthy digestion and can be easily administered in the daily feed after being soaked.
Can I combine Sugar Light hay pellets with other products?
Yes, Sugar Light OKAPI hay pellets can be combined with other foods without any problems. Sugar Light OKAPI hay pellets are not a complete food and should therefore always be offered as a supplement to a high-quality hay mineral feed.
What does OKAPI Heucobs Sugar Light contain?
OKAPI Heucobs Sugar Light consists of a mixture of 100% grasses and herbs from low-nutrient pastures, dried with hot air and processed into pellets.

How long should I give OKAPI Heucobs Sugar Light to my horse?
Heucobs Sugar Light can be given on a short- or long-term basis, depending on your horse's needs. They are particularly suitable for horses with metabolic or dental problems, as well as older horses that require a low-sugar diet. The transition to a low-sugar diet should be done gradually. The duration of feeding is flexible, but can also be permanent if the horse's health requires it.
How should OKAPI Heucobs Sugar Light pellets be administered?
OKAPI Heucobs Sugar Light pellets must only be fed in soaked form. To do this, pour approximately three times their volume in water (1:3) over the pellets and leave them to swell until they are completely softened. For quick preparation, it is recommended to use hot water; cold water can also be used, but requires a longer soaking time, ideally overnight. The pellets should be fed at room temperature to avoid injury or discomfort.
How do I calculate the appropriate dose for my horse?
To calculate the appropriate dose of Heucobs Sugar Light for your horse, follow these steps:
Determine your horse's weight: you can do this using scales, a tape measure or the BCI app from our partner Sanoanimal. This app is available free of charge from Google Play Store and Apple Store.
Follow the feeding recommendations: the general dose for OKAPI Heucobs Sugar Light is based on a 600 kg horse. Start with 200 g of dry weight (plus 1.5 to 3 times this amount in water) and slowly increase the amount as needed.
