What does fermentation mean?
There are essentially two methods of obtaining glucosamine. The most common method involves processing the shells of crustaceans, i.e. crabs, crayfish, etc., to obtain glucosamine. This glucosamine can in some cases cause allergic reactions, which is why we explicitly do not use it. Our glucosamine sulphate is produced by fermentation, i.e. using special micro-organisms in a fermentation chamber (fermenter). It is then purified and packaged by us. The same method is used to produce glucosamine sulphate for the pharmaceutical industry, so we can guarantee that we are offering pure glucosamine sulphate, free from undesirable impurities.

What is OKAPI Synofit?
Our Synofit promotes the natural regeneration of joint cartilage. It is therefore particularly suitable for horses whose joints are subject to high stress, such as sport horses and those who are overweight or deformed. But older horses and those with a tendency to tact problems also benefit from regular administration.
Along with chondroitin sulphate and hyaluronic acid, glucosamine sulphate is one of the most important nutrients for joint cartilage cells. Unfortunately, hyaluronic acid administered with food is broken down during digestion. Chondroitin sulphate is generally extracted from pork rinds, which, in our opinion, again makes it critical for horse feed. Moreover, it is also broken down in the digestive tract, largely into glucosamine and glucuronic acid. That's why we don't use a combination of these three elements and rely directly on pure glucosamine sulphate.
Is Synofit right for my horse?
Synofit is pure glucosamine sulphate, produced by a special fermentation process. Glucosamine is an amino sugar naturally present in living organisms, which is combined with sulphur in tissues (= sulphate) to become biologically active. It is relatively expensive because of the manufacturing process, but it is one of the three important nutrients for cartilage, making it particularly suitable for horses with strained joints.
Can I combine Synofit with other products?
OKAPI Synofit can be added to the trough with other feeds without any problem. To our knowledge, there have been no cross-reactions with other feeds. On the contrary, depending on the individual case, our Synofit can be combined with Devil's Claw, Sulphur Plus, Kieselgur Plus or depurative herbs, for example, to provide even better metabolic support.
How long should I give OKAPI Synofit?
We generally recommend giving our Synofit for 6 to 8 weeks and observing the horse. If the horse's movement pattern has stabilised during administration and after weaning, it is possible to take a break and repeat the treatment a few weeks or months later, if you feel the horse could benefit from it.
However, for some horses, this is not enough, especially during the cold, wet season. In this case, Synofit can also be given continuously, for example throughout the winter, until the weather is dry and warm again and the horses are generally moving better. If necessary, Synofit can also be combined with our Sulphur Plus.
How do I feed OKAPI Synofit?
OKAPI Synofit can be incorporated directly into the horse's existing feed.
How do I calculate the right dosage for my horse?
To calculate the appropriate dose of OKAPI Synofit, follow these steps:
Determine the horse's weight:
The horse's weight can be determined either by weighing it or by measuring it with a tape measure.
Comply with feed recommendations :
The general recommendations for OKAPI products refer to a 600 kg horse. The recommended daily amount is 1ML (1 scoop = 3g) twice a day.
Adjusting the dose: If the horse weighs 300 kg, for example, the dose should be adjusted accordingly. The calculation is as follows: daily dose (3 g) / 600 kg × weight of horse (300 kg) = daily ration (1.5 g).
This calculation method is used to determine the appropriate quantity.
